New
UK Head of the UN High Commission for Refugees
Anne Dawson-Shepherd is the new Representative
of the UN High Commission for Refugees in the UK.
"After twenty years working in
refugee emergencies around the globe, I am really happy to be in
Britain. The challenges are immense, but I am determined to see
that the UNHCR in its work with the British government and other
partners continues to champion the rights of refugees and asylum
seekers."
Prior to her London posting, Ms Dawson-Shepherd
worked with UNHCR in Asia, Latin America and also in Africa, including
serving as the Representative in Singapore and Germany. Before joining
the UN refugee agency, she ran a reception centre for Vietnamese
refugees in Scotland.
