The
UNHCR London Internship Programme
This is an invaluable opportunity to gain first-hand experience
with the UN's refugee agency, while contributing to the protection
of asylum seekers and refugees.

are 09.00-17.30 Monday-Thursday and 09.00-15.00 on Fridays. Regrettably
UNHCR is unable to sponsor individuals interested in this programme,
and the internship positions are unpaid. All costs connected with an internship must be borne by the intern, including travel, living and accommodation costs
.
Legal
Protection Internships
The work of UNHCR's Legal Protection Unit is supported by a team
of high calibre and dedicated interns who perform a range of tasks
including legal analysis, research, drafting, policy-based work
and individual casework. There are currently five Legal Protection

with different start dates throughout the year.

are looking for talented graduates with a legal background and a
commitment to refugee issues.
Next vacancy: March 2008. Deadline for applications: Friday 22 February 2008.

Playing a key role in a small but wide-ranging External Affairs unit, the media and parliamentary interns (two positions) keep UNHCR's London office up to date on the latest news and policy developments by monitoring the UK press and parliament daily. The interns also help the Office respond through researching briefs and identifying opportunities for public outreach. With an opportunity to focus on media/public outreach or parliamentary affairs (subject to team make-up at time of internship), interns are responsible for maintaining and developing contact databases, managing public information and resource requests, as well as assisting in event management.
The positions are ideally suited for persons who can adapt their strong communication skills to address the needs of different audiences and can apply attention to detail, quick learning and commitment to UNHCR's aims to even the most routine task. Previous knowledge of media relations, parliamentary affairs or public outreach campaigns an advantage. The post would ideally suit someone who is interested in pursuing a career in these arenas.
Next vacancy: March 2008. Please do not apply until 1st February 2008.
