Kyrgyzstan / Uzbekistan

Violent clashes in south Kyrgyzstan have displaced over 300,000 people, creating a refugee crisis that UNHCR is rushing to respond to.
Emergency airlifts carrying tonnes of humanitarian aid have been arriving into Uzbekistan for those in Kyrgyzstan, and is being quickly distributed to those with the most urgent needs.
UNHCR has fielded experienced emergency responders and is providing emergency aid, flying supplies of lightweight tents, plastic sheeting, blankets and sleeping mats from UNHCR’s warehouse in Dubai. UNHCR is working closely alongside the Uzbek authorities, rushing supplies to the eastern part of the country to help shelter the thousands of people who have fled their homes in Osh and other towns in southern Kyrgyzstan.
These humanitarian aid flights are the first of many that will deliver more than 240 tonnes of UNHCR emergency relief items in the first weeks of this crisis.
The UN High Commissioner for Refugees António Guterres has called upon donors and governments around the world to respond to the emerging crisis: “This is a dramatic and rapidly developing refugee situation, this help is urgently required.â€
