Haiti Emergency Appeal

UNHCR urgently needs US $12,500,000 to help the people of Haiti following the 7.0 magnitude earthquake that claimed the lives of more than 150,000 people and left at least 300,000 homeless. UNHCR has been providing emergency relief support to people living outside of camps in Haiti and those who have fled to neighbouring Dominican Republic.
Your donations will help provide essential non-food items, shelter and support to those who desperately need them.
In the first weeks of the disaster, hospital tents, plastic sheeting and tents for more than 100,000 people were dispatched by UNHCR and a team of 13 from UNHCR’s Emergency Response Team carried out crucial logistical and analytical support.
UNHCR and its partners are implementing quick impact projects for those who fled outside of the main humanitarian assistance area. Furthermore, UNHCR is continuing to support the return to Haiti of patients discharged from hospitals in the Dominican Republic and is assisting vulnerable individuals who need to remain.
In Santo Domingo, support is being given to host families, shelters and churches that are caring for discharged patients and vulnerable Haitians, including unaccompanied children, orphans, women at risk and the disabled. Additionally, UNHCR and its partners are supporting vulnerable third country nationals, including refugees and undocumented migrants, who were living in Haiti at the time of the earthquake and who either fled to Dominican Republic or became displaced in Haiti.
Without your support and donations, this work will be impossible to continue.
