Number of Syrian refugees in Lebanon passes 100,000

Lebanon, after Turkey and Jordan, has become the third country in the region to host over 100,000 Syrian refugees. The total number of refugees in neighbouring countries has now reached over 358,000, while tens of thousands more have not yet registered.

Meanwhile, UNHCR is encouraging EU Member States to respect their asylum obligations, as a small but growing number of Syrians arrive in Europe.

Nansen Refugee Award presented to Somali winner "Mama" Hawa

When Hawa Aden Mohamed was a young girl, her father made a decision that would change her life; and through her transform the lives of thousands of Somali girls. He sent her to school.

This month, High Commissioner António Guterres presented her with the Nansen Refugee Award.
