UK pledges £4m as Syria refugee crisis grows

The UK government has confirmed its support for Syrian refugees with £4 million in funding to UNHCR, as the number of Syrians fleeing violence approaches 150,000.

Olympic spirit gives hope to refugees

UNHCR has been preparing for an Olympics that will leave a lasting legacy for refugees. Partnering with the International Olympic Committee (IOC), we have launched the third "Giving is Winning" initiative that aims to collect 100,000 items of sports clothing to send to refugees in South Sudan, Ethiopia and Bangladesh.

Guor Marial: the refugee marathon man running for the world

28 year old Guor Marial spent his childhood running from danger. Separated from his family by civil war, at the age of eight he fled South Sudan to Egypt and now has refugee status in the US. He has only ever run in two marathons but was fast enough to qualify for the London 2012 Olympics.

UNA Event: Ambassadors support Olympic truce

London’s ambassadors will gather this week to confirm their countries’ support of the Olympic Truce. Expect to see the flags of the United Nations, a photographic exhibition of UN peacekeepers and listen to a speaker from UNHCR.
